The President called for leadership in Federal Green initiatives (EO 10/5/09). One of the interesting opportunities to lead in this area is Green IT—every employee is an IT user, and our IT investments are huge! The challenge is that there are hundreds of decisions to be made on what to turn off when, or what should be placed where, or which devise is better, etc. My group is building a PASS model for getting to the best answers—decisions that have a series of trade-offs, like when to turn off the PCs, given the users and the need for IT to run software updates. What do you think are about “Green IT” and should we start looking at a low-energy form of dong work all together?
