Give an Hour™ (GAH), a national nonprofit in the Washington, D.C., area, providing free mental health services to military personnel and their families, is seeking a versatile leader and manager to serve as its Executive Director (ED). Reporting to the President and the Board of Directors, and coordinating with the VP for Operations, the ED is responsible for:
-implementing the President’s vision and the organization’s mission through specific projects and partnerships, including (1) a series of state initiatives and (2) a demonstration in two communities of comprehensive community-wide care for military families
-expanding the organization’s funding base and securing its financial future by developing resources to ensure both a greater level of impact and the ability to sustain its work over the long term to effect lasting systemic change
–representing the organization and serving as its spokesperson at meetings, conferences, and other public events, both those in the local area and those requiring travel
-spearheading the organization’s goal of educating the public about issues facing military families and reducing the stigma associated with mental health care
-building partnerships with other nonprofits and government agencies and officials—on a national, state, and local level, within the military and outside it
-extending the organization’s presence and outreach to the military and mental health communities
-leading the staff of 5 full-time and 6 part-time employees, with an annual budget of roughly $1 million
-as financial resources grow, ensuring that staff, systems, and processes are of sufficient depth and breadth to be consistent with best practices and the organization’s reputation for excellence
-ensuring staff continuity through mentoring, professional development, and advancement opportunities and creating systems for embedding institutional knowledge and memory
