Last week, the Los Angeles Air Force Base announced that they were completely abandoning 40 of their gas-guzzling general purpose vehicles in favor of new electric vehicles. They will be the first base in the United States to make this shift, with 100% of their vehicles being electric, hybrid, or plug-in electric by January 2012. This includes their large trucks and shuttle buses.

According to Air Force leadership, the initiative began in response to higher gas prices and lower battery prices. It also doesn’t hurt that it is environmentally friendly.

Looks like military vehicles may be getting a new look!

What are your thoughts on this initiative? Do you think other bases will choose to switch to the electric vehicles as well?

Hmm…Maybe, kicking and screaming. I don’t know how feasible it would be to do too expansively.
