Just finished reading “The Landscaping of Social Media” and even though I had no specific problems with the author’s profession, I am really concerned about the trend toward hiring people to handle your social presence for you. Now, it makes sense if you are a large organization but even then you need a personal touch. If it is for an individual, then it better be the actual person who is writing the postings, tweets, etc.
This is a contradiction in why we have social media in the first place: to engage in a two-way conversation with a real person. Hiring a service to write your blogs, tweets, or design your Pinterest board is just another form of traditional advertising.
