I’ve enjoyed stints working for the federal government, as an independent consultant and in “salaried” positions with companies. I think hopping between arenas will become increasingly common for individuals in my age demographic (and with my attention span!). For some fields, the flexibility isn’t there, for other individuals, independent consulting just doesn’t suit their personality.

I wrote the first in a series of articles about considerations for independent consultants, but I’d love to get more feedback as I continue – have you tried consulting? Are you a consultant now? Do the benefits outweight the challenges (re: lack of co-workers, office structure, etc)?
