Federal agencies aren’t being open enough with the media, a new survey of reporters has found.
GovExec says that the Society of Professional Journalists just released results of a report regarding journalists’ perceptions of federal PIOs.
About 75 percent of those surveyed said they have to get approval before talking with agency employees for a story. Two thirds of respondents said access to federal employees has been outright blocked, and 84 percent said they have had an interview monitored by a PIO.
The survey wasn’t full of all negative information, though. About 70 percent of respondents said they have a good relationship with federal PIOs.
What do you think? Is your agency open with the press? Should they be more transparent?
