I need some help!
I have received a tentative offer from Army as an IT Specialist position with a GS 11 Step 1 with annual salary of $63,490.
Original usajobs.gov advertisement was for grade GS 11 – 12 and salary $63,490 to $100,600 annually.
Few of the Conditions of the employment requirements were:
• Secret Clearance – This position may require the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret or Top Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment
• This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain the appropriate Information Assurance certification in accordance with DoD 8570.01-M, Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program, within 6 months of entry onto duty.
I went through the intense process of job interview, and offered with a tentative offer from the management.
When the HR personal contacted me with the tentative offer, I have mentioned that, I have over 15 years of experience and a BS & MS degree in the field. Also over 2 years of specialized working experience as a GS 13 level (DoD contractor) plus I have DoD Top Secret clearance (requirement is only for secret clearance) plus the Information assurance certification in accordance with DoD 8570.01-M (requirement says should obtain within 6 months of entry onto duty). Therefore, the HR personal ask me to accept the tentative offer and send him my current job details and latest pay-stub to justify that.
After reviewing all that, HR personal told me that, I should be eligible to get at least GS 12 step eight over the phone and schedule my medical. He also mentioned that my on-boarding process would be quick, since I have Top Secret clearance.
After a month, I received and email from HR saying that,
“Management come back and denied your step increase for the position and the offer still stands at GS 11 step one which is for $63,490 per year. You wanted accept or decline? “
What should I do? Please help me… I really want this job, but not for this salary of $63,490.00, which is less than $45,000.00, than I am currently making as a DoD contractor.
Any recommendations or tips? Please help…
