The City of Austin (Austin pop. 812,000/Travis County pop. 1mil) seeks highly qualified candidates with the ability to fill the executive position of Assistant Director, Health and Human Services Department (HHSD), Community Services Division. This high profile leadership position will have the opportunity to shape the direction of the Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services community services by providing direction and leadership in community planning, program oversight, and non-profit outreach services.
The Assistant Director will be responsible for the operation of the City of Austins Community Services Division, a staff of seventy employees, and a budget of $38,409,647, of which $17.6 mil is federal and state grant funding, and $17.8 mil is in city funded community grants. This visionary leader will be responsible for grant funded contracts with 65+ non-profit agencies that serve the communitys basic needs, early education and childcare, HIV services, homelessness, neighborhood community centers, workforce development services, and minority quality of life initiatives.
This experienced leader will be expected to analyze how community services are delivered to best address the regions critical public health and human service needs. The City seeks a candidate with a background in health and human services delivery systems; the ability to provide direction and exert influence in the community; strong contracting, oversight and grant management experience to oversee community services contracts and retain accountability and performance; and, an engaging collaborator with strong presentation skills to address city and elected officials, stakeholder groups, and city staff.
Candidates must have a degree from an accredited four year college or university with major coursework in social and human services, business administration, public administration, municipal government, or in a field related to the job, plus five (5) years of progressively responsible management experience in community outreach and social services. A masters degree may substitute for two (2) years of experience.
