    Job Description
    The County of Sonoma seeks an energetic, passionate human resources professional who is up to the challenge of making a significant impact on the services and programs offered by our Human Resources Department.

    The Assistant Director position is the Human Resources Department’s internal chief operating officer and is primarily charged with assisting the Director by managing all day-to-day operations, and continually evaluating and seeking solutions and programs to maintain and improve the comprehensive range of human resources programs and services provided to HR’s customers in these demanding times. The Assistant provides knowledgeable professional expertise and guidance in core human resources functions and will oversee the: HRMS system; EEO; Training; the Department’s Fiscal/Administrative Division; the Commission on the Status of Women; the Commission on Human Rights; and the Recruitment & Classification Division.

    The ideal candidate is a seasoned human resources professional with strong technical skills including general and fiscal management experience and experience in the program areas of: employee relations, recruitment, classification, compensation, performance management, risk management, benefits, and training. Normally, graduation from an accredited college or university with a related degree and four years of experience managing a significant, centralized human resources function for a mid-sized public agency operating a personnel merit system in a union environment. Possession of a Master’s degree in a related field is highly desirable. IPMA-CP and/or SPHR certification preferred.
