Associate Director of Federal Relations
Habitat for Humanity International is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. Habitat for Humanity International(HFHI) seeks an experienced professional to ser as the Associate Director of Federal Relations, reporting to the Government Relations and Advocacy department. This person will be working out of HFHI’s Legal and Advocacy office located in Washington, DC and will work on behalf of the US domestic policy agenda of HFHI and Habitat affiliates by supporting the Director of Federal Relations with all domestic policy priorities and serve as the lead HFHI representative on a portion of the domestic portfolio (under the supervision and with the support of the Director). Issues led by the Assistant Director will be determined based on knowledge and experience and will vary over time.
Supporting the Director of Federal Relations in all aspects of public policy advocacy, that includes public policy research, public policy agenda development, public policy materials development (white papers, issue briefs, op-ed pieces, etc.),
Participate in field engagements with local Habitat affiliates and State Support Organizations in support of policy agenda
Attending advocacy coalition engagements
Managing advocacy partnership relationship
Direct lobbying of Congress and other federal agencies
Planning and implementation of bi-annual Habitat on the Hill legislative and advocacy conference
Planning and implementation of bi-annual fly-in lobby day event
Planning and implementation of government relations and advocacy components of special events (World Habitat Day events, Martin Luther King day of service, 9/11 Day of remembrance, Veterans Day service projects, National Homeownership Week)
Producing of bi-weekly policy updates
Monitoring of and internal reporting on congressional and federal agency policymaking activities (hearings, mark-ups, floor consideration of legislation, draft rules and regulations, etc.)
Drafting of regulatory and other comments for the Federal Register
Meeting internal HFHI departmental planning and reporting requirements
