    Job Description

    Fayetteville, NC (208,000) Dynamic, family friendly, diverse community located in south central North Carolina seeks experienced, progressive candidates to serve as its Chief Information Officer. The CIO provides leadership and management to the Information Technology Systems Department which is comprised of 20 staff members and a budget of $3.2 million. The CIO is an integral part of the senior management team advising the City Manager, City Council and Senior Management Team on matters pertaining to technical systems and applications. Fayetteville is home to Fort Bragg, the Army’s headquarters for Airborne and Special Operations forces as well as the future home of Army Forces Command which will bring an additional 40,000 people to the region in September 2011. The City is also home to many historical landmarks dating back to the 1762 as well as a charming, historical downtown. Located just two hours from the ocean and a short drive to the Blue Ridge Mountains, residents have many recreational opportunities. Position is appointed by the City Manager, who was appointed in 2006 and reports to an Assistant City Manager. The ideal candidate will be a working manager equally comfortable advising the senior management team on organizational priorities, advising the elected officials on technological investment systems, or negotiating with a vendor.

    Job Requirements

    Qualified individuals will be expected to have a strong background in information systems management and be an effective manager and leader of personnel with the ability to establish clear objectives and performance metrics. Candidates must have ten years increasingly responsible experience in an upper management position in an organization of comparable size and complexity of which at least five years must be supervisory experience. Position requires bachelor’s degree in business or public administration with ITS coursework or an ITS degree or related field. CGCIO certification and/or Master’s Degree in relevant area of study preferred. Strategic, results oriented, collaborative leadership essential for success.
