As the Commonwealth of Massachusetts advances its mission to enhance information technology (IT) efficiencies and effectiveness by consolidating Executive Department IT systems, the Chief Security Officer (CSO) must assist agency heads in maintaining the dynamic balance between their service delivery and risk management responsibilities.

The CSO provides strategic and tactical information security direction for Commonwealth Executive Branch Departments and Organizations as well as other non-executive branch entities (e.g., legislative, judicial, constitutionals, authorities, quasi-public sector). Reporting directly to the Assistant Secretary for Information Technology & Chief Information Officer, the CSO works closely with the COO, CAO, CSP, CTO, other members of the senior ITD management team, and Secretariat Chief Information Officers (SCIOs) in establishing strategic & tactical objectives, operating policies and procedures necessary to achieve departmental objectives.
