    Job Description

    The Missouri Department of Social Services (MDSS) Children’s Division is seeking a leader who has an unwavering commitment to children and families to serve as the Jackson County Regional Director. This position, located in Kansas City, will offer the right candidate a unique and challenging opportunity to direct, implement and evaluate the State of Missouri’s child welfare programs in this region including child abuse/neglect investigations; family-centered services; alternative care services; adoption and guardianship subsidy and services; subsidized child care; inspection and licensing of foster care homes, residential care facilities and child-placing agencies; and early childhood and prevention services. The goal of the Children’s Division is to partner with families, communities and government to protect children from abuse and neglect and assure safety, permanency and well-being for Missouri’s children.

    This position reports to the Director of the Children’s Division and serves as a member of the CD Executive Team, participating in departmental strategic and fiscal planning, internal and external communication, interaction with members of the legislature, and liaison activities with local, state and national entities. Work includes establishing and maintaining an administrative structure, setting goals and objectives, establishing and interpreting policy and procedures, implementing and evaluating program operations, analyzing management practices, assuring strong clinical practice, developing corrective action plans and other related activities. Work involves directing and advising regional managers in day-to-day activities and the coordination of activities and relationships with juvenile court administrators and staff throughout the region.

    Job Requirements

    The ideal candidate will have experience at an executive level in a large agency and considerable knowledge of the principles and methods in child welfare and the ability to relate these to preventative and protective services. Strong leadership and decision-making skills are critical to success in this position. Candidates should have a passion for best practices and a commitment to collaborative working relationships with partners such as advocacy, provider, legislative, and governmental/regulatory constituents. The successful candidate must have a value set consistent with MDSS’ culture which focuses on results for the people of Missouri; excellence in customer service; proficiency of performance; integrity of stewardship; and accountability.

    The successful candidate will have, at a minimum, a bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas: social work, psychology, business management, public administration, or a related field of study. A Master’s degree is preferred. Work experience includes a minimum of 5 years of management and supervisory experience within a public or private social services agency.
