Job Description Salary competitive. Vallejo (population 120,000) is a full service charter city located between the cities of Sacramento and San Francisco. It is an active waterfront community that takes great pride in its 200-year history and maritime heritage. FY2011-12 total budget is almost $219 million with 466 staff. The City has a Council-Manager form of government with the Mayor and six Council members elected at large, on a non-partisan basis for four year overlapping terms. Position is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the City Council.
Vallejo has continued normal business operations and has adopted and maintained General Fund balanced budgets since filing for bankruptcy protection in May 2008. In August 2011, the U.S. Bankruptcy court signed an order confirming the City’s amended and modified plan of adjustment, which was approved by all major creditors. The confirmed plan will allow the City to emerge from bankruptcy and move forward to rebuild itself into a new and better, more productive organization, devoting its resources and focus to the community it serves.
Desire the equivalent of a relevant bachelor’s degree and substantial experience as a chief executive (or deputy/assistant chief executive from a larger organization) with a general purpose local government offering services comparable to those of the City of Vallejo. Should have demonstrated success in finance and budgeting, economic development, labor relations, intergovernmental relations and public/media relations.
