    Clatsop County is located in the northwest corner of Oregon on the rugged and beautiful coast, bounded on the north by the Columbia River and the west by the Pacific Ocean. Clatsop County’s resident population is approximately 37,315, with a daily population of approximately 45,000, and holiday visitors often exceed 200,000. The county seat, Astoria, is Oregon’s oldest city and the oldest American settlement west of the Rockies, and is within two hours’ drive of Portland.

    Clatsop County government consists of five Commissioners, an elected District Attorney and Sheriff, and County Manager. The following departments report to the County Manager: Assessment & Taxation; Central Services & Finance; Clerk & Elections; Community Development; Public Health; Public Works; Human Resources & Emergency Management; and Juvenile. The County’s budget for 2011-2012 is $59,470,500 and there are approximately 224 FTEs. The County Manager is the administrative executive of the county government, responsible to the Board of Commissioners for the proper administration of the County.
