    Job Description

    Located along the Coast of Southern California, the City of Long Beach is the 2nd largest city in Los Angeles County, and the 7th largest in California. With a broad spectrum of people in culturally and economically unique neighborhoods, business areas, and entertainment districts, Long Beach is one of the most vibrant communities in the country. The Department of Public Works constructs and preserves the City’s infrastructure and transportation system, provides street sweeping, refuse collection, fleet acquisition and maintenance, real estate administration, parking enforcement and graffiti abatement, as well as emergency support services throughout the City. The Department has 6 bureaus: Administration, Asset Management, Engineering, Environmental Services, Fleet, and Public Service and 580 full-time employees with an adopted FY 2012 operating budget of $174 million, and $54 million in Capital Projects. Reporting to the Director of Public Works, the Deputy Director of Public Works/City Engineer is responsible for the overall operation and performance of the Engineering Bureau and provides management oversight of the Department in the Director’s absence.
