ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES DIRECTOR
Wake County, seated in Raleigh, North Carolina, is the State’s capital county with a population of more than 900,000 and a land area of 860 square miles. The current budget is $951.2 million and the County has approximately 3,500 employees. Wake County is consistently rated as one of the best places to live and work in America and is home to NC State University, Research Triangle Park and the 2006 Stanley Cup Champions, the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Environmental Services Director reports to the County Manager’s Office and serves as a member of the Wake County Government Senior Management Team. The incumbent directs the activities of the Environmental Services Department which includes the sections of Animal Services, Environmental Health and Safety, Solid Waste and Water Quality. The Director enforces State laws and regulations, as well as local ordinances, related to public health and safety, water resource protection, animal care and welfare and solid waste disposal and recycling. The position directs a staff of 99 employees and manages an annual operating budget of $33.3 million.
Qualified candidates will possess an appropriate Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred); executive level experience including organizational, staff, budget and financial management experience gained in a comparable organization; experience fostering and developing partnerships with public and private entities as well as experience managing issues related to complex growth and development issues.
The current salary range for this position is $97,000 to $165,000; salary is negotiable DOQ. Excellent benefits, such as a 5% contribution to the NC 401(k) plan, are included as a part of total compensation.
