Pretty cool fellowship opportunity – http://publicpolicylab.org/

    Our Fellowships

As a component of our technical-assistance program for public agencies, the Public Policy Lab offers project-specific fellowships that allow designers to engage with compelling public-sector work. Fellows provide research, design, and strategic assistance on a consulting or part-time basis, typically for terms lasting from 3 to 6 months; a modest honorarium is provided, as are a range of other personal and professional benefits.

    Current Call for Fellows

We are currently seeking fellow candidates for Public & Collaborative: Housing Services, a partnership with the NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development and Desis Lab at Parsons the New School for Design. The application deadline is 9 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21.

This initiative will explore opportunities for delivering more effective, efficient, and satisfying public services and for facilitating service solutions developed by citizens. For detailed information, please download the complete Call for Fellows [pdf].

The Public Policy Lab will award three to five fellowships for this project. In addition, one HPD staff member will join the fellow team. Fellows will be expected to dedicate at least one day per week to fellow activities from March through May of 2012.

To apply, please review the Call for Fellows [pdf], then submit a single PDF file, titled YourlastnameFirstname.pdf, containing the following:

    • a completed application cover-sheet form, downloadable here [docx]
    • a one-page letter indicating your interest in the project and the skills you would contribute to the fellow team
    • your resume
    • If a full-time employee, a letter from your employer indicating support for your participation on at least a one-day-per-week basis from March through May 2012

Email the application packet to fellows [at] publicpolicylab [dot] org. The application deadline is 9 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21.

Applications will be reviewed promptly, and interviews with selected candidates will be scheduled for the week of February 27. Candidates invited to interview may be asked to supply a portfolio or other work samples. Please note: Candidates under consideration will be contacted by email. No phone calls, please.

    Fellow Qualifications

Recipients of our fellowships are experienced professionals from an array of creative disciplines, including design and ethnographic researchers, service designers, UX and interaction designers, architects and planners, information and communications designers, environmental graphic designers, documentary photographers and filmmakers, editors, and producers. We also offer fellowships to policy and management professionals with specializations around the delivery of public services. What our fellows have in common is a belief in the power of design to make public services better for people.
