    Job Description

    Plans, organizes and directs the City’s accounting and financial reporting functions, including general accounting for assets, liabilities, revenue and expenses and the preparation of related financial reports.

    Assists in developing and implementing the City’s integrated financial management systems to meet City needs and state and federal requirements and regulations.

    Performs detailed financial analyses.

    Prepares budget requests and forecasts of revenues and expenses city wide.

    Insures that all City accounting is performed in accordance with the prescribed accounting and administrative standards and regulations.

    Responsible for preparation and review of special financial, statistical and budget reports.

    Confers with accounting and administrative personnel of other departments and agencies regarding interpretation of municipal financial and accounting system practices.

    Reviews, analyzes and interprets data concerning a variety of financial activities and projects.

    Participates in special projects as assigned.

    Provides suggestions for improving departmental financial performance, efficiency and effectiveness.

    Trains, supervises, coordinates and develops the work of subordinate and city staff.

    Represents the department as needed.

    Performs other related work as required.

    Job Requirements

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or Public Administration and four (4) years of responsible professional level experience in accounting, auditing, or performing related fiscal analysis.

    Two (2) years of the required experience must have been in an accounting supervisory capacity within an accounting or finance department.

    Experience in the area of municipal accounting, specifically; grants management, single audit compliance and financial reporting is highly desirable

    Note: A Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or Public Administration or a valid Florida Certified Public Accountant license may substitute two (2) years of the required non-supervisory work experience (listed above).
