    Job Title: Human Resources Assistant

    Performs work in support of a Human Resource (HR) action processing function. Processes the full range of HR actions including those of a novel or unusual nature, such as special appointment or detail actions. Troubleshoots personnel action rejects from automated information system. Determines where the error exists, and takes appropriate action to ensure accuracy of the database. Performs work in support of placement and recruitment functions. Performs limited technical projects such as minimum eligibility determinations, or the preparation of recurring and new vacancy announcements. Conducts New Employee Orientation via Live Meeting. Discusses and explains requirements for selecting health and life insurance, paydays, sick and annual leave systems, military deposits, retirement, and other privileges and fringe benefits to be derived through Government service. Assists new hires in completing all required forms. Processes and reviews requests for personnel actions (SF-52) for completeness and accuracy. Prepares accession packages and initial Official Personnel Folders (OPF) for new hires. Checks SF-52 for adequacy of terms, codes, remarks, and inclusion of supporting documents. Uses personal computer software to create, copy, edit, store, retrieve, and print forms, memos, and letters; uses existing database or spreadsheet software to create, enter, revise, sort or calculate, and retrieve data for reports. Independently carries out familiar assignments in accordance with previous instruction, standard procedures for creating documents, or entering or retrieving data, and established use of software packages. Transmits and receives documents and messages electronically using personal computers or workstations that are networked or linked to others.

    Job Requirements

    GS-7: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 level in Federal service. Specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience include: knowledge of an extensive body of human resources rules, procedures, and operations to perform a wide variety of interrelated or nonstandard HR support work and to plan, coordinate, develop facts and/or resolve a wide range of support problems in one or more HR specialties. Knowledge and skill in the use of personal computers, Internet, and various office software programs to prepare a variety of complex documents containing tables and/or graphs and to obtain information from online accessible HR resources as needed.

    GS-6: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level in Federal service. Specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience include: demonstrated knowledge of human resources rules, procedures, and operations to perform a wide variety of interrelated or nonstandard HR support work and to plan, coordinate, develop facts and/or resolve a wide range of support problems in one or more HR specialties. Knowledge and skill in the use of personal computers, internet, and various office software programs to perform a variety of assignments associated with the HR programs to prepare a variety of complex documents containing tables and/or graphs and to obtain information from online accessible HR resources as needed.

    GS-5: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS- 4 level in Federal service. Specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience demonstrate knowledge of human resources rules, procedures, and operations to perform a wide variety of interrelated or nonstandard HR support work and to plan, coordinate, develop facts and/or resolve a wide range of support problems in one or more HR specialties. Ability to use personal computers to prepare Human Resource documents with complicated formatting, e.g. headers and footers: and to extract, revise, or sort information from files, records, or databases. -OR- 4 years education above high school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
