    This vacancy announcement is for a Term Appointment not-to-exceed 13 months. It can be renewed annually, not-to-exceed 4 years, contingent upon funding. Term Appointments do not confer competitive status or eligibilty to be non-competively converted to a career-conditional appointment in the competitive service.

    This position is located in the National Park Service, Northeast Regional Office, Information Technology and Information Management Division. The purpose of the position is to provide guidance and support to the Regional Office and Regional Director’s staff in all areas of network services and data communications. The position advises management on the formulation of policy and planning goals; provides expert knowledge regarding the acquisition, development and implementation of local area networks and data communications.

    KEY REQUIREMENTS:

    * Successful Completion of Pre-employment Background Investigation Required

    DUTIES:

    Serves as the administrator of the Northeast Regional Office local area network located in the Philadelphia and Boston offices. Manages all aspects of network operations including technical planning, analyzing, design, development, testing configuration, integration, installation, implementation, quality assurance, maintenance, management, security and user access. Work requires analyzing and defining network requirements, its architecture and infrastructure; configuring and optimizing network servers, hubs, bridges, routers, and switches; analyzing network workload and monitoring its capacity and performance; diagnosing and resolving network problems and developing backup and recovery procedures; installing, testing, maintaining and upgrading network operating systems software; and ensuring rigorous application of information security, assurance policies, principles, and practices in delivery of network services.
