    Job Description

    The incumbent will be initially assigned to the NYS Law Enforcement Accreditation Program, which provides formal recognition to police agencies that meet professional standards through the implementation of policies in the areas of administration, operations and training; and also, the 1033 Federal Excess Property Program, which allows for the transfer of excess DOD equipment to federal, state and local law enforcement agencies through the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency. Responsibilities within the Accreditation Program include providing ongoing technical assistance to accredited law enforcement agencies or those seeking to become accredited; review of law enforcement agency policies and procedures to determine compliance with standards; coordination of agency assessments including selection of assessment teams and preparing those teams for each assessment; conducting occasional on-site file reviews; developing and delivering training programs to participating agencies and assessors; and assisting in any other related tasks. Responsibilities within the 1033 Federal Excess Property Program include providing technical assistance to participating agencies; monitoring of activities to facilitate compliance with program requirements; reviewing and approving enrollment applications; approval of property requests; facilitation of turn-ins, transfers and property disposals; statewide property accountability, direct on-going communication with participating agencies; the development and presentation of training programs; and assisting in any other related tasks.

    The incumbent may be transferred within other OPS units as needs are identified by management. Incumbent responsibilities could include the facilitation of incoming requests for general information; field visits to agencies to identify training needs; research for development of training programs; provide classroom instruction; and oversight of mandated and non-mandated training programs.


    Candidates must currently be a Senior Training Technician (Police), SG-18; or have one year of permanent, competitive service in a title SG-16 or higher and be eligible for transfer under Civil Service Law, or reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list for this title.
