    TTB’s mission is to collect alcohol, tobacco, firearms and ammunition excise taxes; to ensure that alcohol beverages are labeled, advertised and marketed in accordance with the law; and to administer the laws and regulations in a manner that protects the revenue, protects the consumer, and promotes voluntary compliance.

    The following are the duties of this position at the GS-12. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

    # Initiates and conducts complex research projects and studies to determine the need for new or amended regulations, directives, forms, or interpretive rulings and to increase the effectiveness of Bureau programs. Writes and issues new or revised regulatory documents and rulings as required.
    # Participates actively at conferences and discussions involving Bureau officials, officials of other government agencies, mid-level representatives of the regulated industries, and the general public.
    # Prepares TTB rulings, industry circulars, and other materials on a wide variety of questions relating to the qualification, establishment, construction and operation of regulated industries and to the tax consequences of such matters.
    # Rules on requests for alternate methods or procedures, or emergency variations from requirements prescribed by regulation, after carefully considering the effect of the proposed variation on the security and protection of the revenue, effective regulatory administration, and compliance with Internal Revenue laws, the FAA Act and other statutes.
    # Develops, analyzes, interprets, coordinates, writes and issues diversified, technical internal procedures, forms and public use documents.
