    This position is in the Department of Economics, located in Washington, D.C. As a Research Analyst in the Market Risk Analysis Division, you will provide analytical and technical support including data retrieval and statistical analysis related to research on topics identified by senior analysts.

    As a Research Analyst, you will:

    • Provide analytical, research and technical support including data retrieval, analysis and statistical programming. Produce financial tables, graphs and reports, often with interdivisional and interdepartmental projects. Maintain familiarity with many different databases. Prepare management and examination reports, charts, graphs and tables. Integrate graphics into written documents and presentation using PowerPoint or Freelance. Report on the condition and performance of national banks into memoranda, papers and
      presentations.
    • Perform background research on a variety of financial and economic topics. Search databases for source material. Summarize/analyze articles and research papers. Prepare background papers based on data analysis and secondary source material.
    • Establish, organize and maintain files for data retrieval; review/assess issues involving data retrieval and analysis, econometrics and presentations; make recommendations to resolve complex problems; and maintain liaison with other OCC staff with similar duties and responsibilities, and with examination staff to provide organizational skills.
    • Maintain knowledge of current developments in the financial markets/legislative initiatives that affect banks; develop expertise in statistical sampling and modeling to provide expert technical assistance to financial economists and examiners in bank examinations; and obtain training to improve expertise in areas of responsibility.

    QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

    • Selective Placement Factor:Candidates must possess the following Selective Placement Factors to be considered qualified for the position.

      Demonstrated experience retrieving, manipulating and analyzing statistical data for research projects in finance and economics requiring the use of statistical and econometric techniques.

    • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the next lower level in the Federal Service. To qualify for the NB-IV level, you must have specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level, NB-III. The experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Specialized experience for this position includes: using various analytical tools to construct and analyze large data sets from multiple sources; identifying and resolving problems or issues which may cross organizational and disciplinary boundaries and impact the accomplishment of agency goals and objectives; functioning independently as a research analyst in developing data and analytical methods and tools for monitoring and analyzing large economic and financial data sets; and operating independently in managing individual work assignments or projects.

    • Ability to effectively communicate complex information, both orally and in writing.
    • Category Rating will be used to rank and select eligible candidates. If qualified, you will be assigned to one of three categories (Outstanding, Excellent, or Qualified) depending on your experience and education related to this position.
