    Job Description

    The Virginia Department of Taxation (TAX) is seeking a Senior IT Internal Auditor to assist with evaluating the adequacy, design, and function of TAX’s internal controls. This position will be responsible for determining whether existing controls ensure that management’s goals and objectives are being met in the most effective, efficient, and economical manner. This position focuses on the evaluation of internal controls, risk assessment, and governance process reviews so that conclusions can be developed about the most effective way to ensure and maintain system operational compliance.

    Additional Responsibilities and Duties include the following:

    • Planning and conducting audits of automated application systems and information technology operations.
    • Testing system integrity and reliability, system controls, and data security.
    • Providing system support for non-system audits and serves as a consultant to the information technology and user groups.
    • Assisting with the preparation and finalization of reports and oral presentations.

    Job Requirements

    • Knowledge of accounting systems; understanding of internal controls; financial analysis and use of operational audit techniques.

    • Knowledge of computer systems, including a thorough understanding of retrieval software.

    • Knowledge of the audit process, including knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and the Institute of Internal Auditor’s Standard for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing or Generally Accepted Government Audit Standards is highly desired.

    • Knowledge of what compromises competent, evidential matter.

    • Knowledge of a wide variety of information technology activities, including computer system operations, system development techniques, and information systems security.

    • Knowledge and understanding of the client server environment.

    • Ability to analyze financial and non-financial data to arrive at logical conclusions and to identify areas of audit concern.

    • The ability to take initiative and be creative in developing audit objectives and procedures.

    • The ability to apply principles and concepts of information systems to computerized systems audits

    • The ability to utilize computer-assisted audit techniques.
