    Town Administrator for the Town of Swampscott, MA

    This scenic, coastal town (population 14,400) 15 miles north of Boston, MA, with an annual budget of approximately $57 million) is seeking to fill the vacant position of Town Administrator, which was held by the incumbent for the past nine years. The position reports to a five-member Board of Selectmen. The appointment is for a renewable three to five year term, at the discretion of the Board. The Town Administrator is the Chief Administrative Officer of the town, responsible for the efficient administration of all town affairs under his/her control. Responsibilities include budget preparation and presentation, collective bargaining with town employees, purchasing, appointment recommendations, supervision and evaluation of department heads, etc. Knowledge of Massachusetts General Laws is preferred. The ideal candidate has preferably served full time as an administrative officer of a city or town for not less than three years, or has demonstrated the equivalent executive, management and administrative qualifications in the public or private sector. Master’s degree preferred, but a bachelor’s degree in public administration, finance or a related field, along with at least three years of pertinent experience, would also qualify. The successful candidate must have excellent communications skills and a proven record of successfully working in a team environment. Residency is not required. Competitive annual salary will range from $113,000 to $130,000 and an excellent benefit package is offered.
