The Glynn County Board of Commissioners is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Traffic Engineer. This position is responsible for performing, planning, directing and organizing professional, administrative and technical work as it relates to the Traffic Engineering Division of the Public Works Department. Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff. Plans, designs, manages and regulates Glynn County’s traffic engineering systems; performs transportation and traffic engineering duties and manages the maintenance of pavement signs, markings, street lights and traffic signal systems. Evaluates existing programs for efficiencies and accomplishments; recommends and implements programs and procedural changes to accomplish overall divisional and departmental goals. Investigates, analyzes and develops remediation measures for various intersection and traffic system issues. Coordinates with the appropriate staff to identify, plan and develop the County’s future transportation needs. Provides traffic and transportation engineering designs in coordination with the appropriate staff on projects relating to the County’s transportation network. Conducts traffic engineering studies, accident studies, and speed studies. Reviews studies prepared by consulting engineers in support of public and private development. Reviews proposed land developments for traffic and transportation impacts. Provides input on planning applications submitted to the County and attends planning staff review and Planning Commission meetings. Investigates complaints and requests from the general public and special interest groups regarding traffic and transportation engineering street lighting and traffic and signal matters. Develops strategic and long-range plans for division operations. Prepares and administers operating budget and capital budget for division. Oversees professional contractors and/or consultants providing services for projects.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year college or university in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Traffic Engineering or Transportation Engineering; supplemented by four (4) years of years professional engineering work involving the design, maintenance, and operation of traffic control systems; project management, budget administration, and supervision. Valid driver’s license is required. Valid State of Georgia Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) Certification is required. Valid Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) designation is preferred.
