The National Library of Medicine (NLM) responds to more than 100,000 questions each year. Regularly asked questions become Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). NLM Reference and Consumer Health FAQs are at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/services/faqref.html . Our FAQs are reviewed and updated frequently. Our FAQs link to resources at NLM, national and international government agencies, and non-profit organizations. One of our FAQs is about medical statistics.

Most statistics originate with the US Federal Government. The FAQ: Medical Statistics is at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/services/statistics.html . Medical Statistics FAQ lists US and international sources. You can also retrieve state and local health statistical information from selected links. NLM has four links to medical statistics on the FAQ:

    • MedlinePlus® Health Statistics topic page – for the layperson and health professionals, with a link to a PubMed search
    • Medline/PubMed. You can search for citations to published research with statistics
    • NLM National Information Center on Health Services Research and Health Care Technology (NICHSR)
    • NLM DIRLINE® – a directory of national and international health organizations that produce statistics

Send your comments about these resource or research assistance questions to [email protected] or use our contact form at http://apps.nlm.nih.gov/mainweb/siebel/nlm/index.cfm .
