    The Sunlight Foundation is seeking a Policy Associate/Lobbyist to be an integral member of Sunlight’s vibrant, growing policy team. The Sunlight Foundation is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization based in Washington, D.C. that focuses on improving government transparency by making government information easily accessible to all citizens online.

    Responsibilities

    The Policy Associate/Lobbyist will be primarily responsible for expanding Sunlight’s role on Capitol Hill by taking our message, policy ideas and legislation directly to congressional staff. The Policy Associate/Lobbyist’s responsibilities include:

    • meeting with congressional staffers, to share information about the Sunlight Foundation’s policy goals
    • developing new relationships with congressional offices of both parties, in both the House and Senate
    • reporting to Sunlight staff a daily update of hearings, proposed bills, pending regulations and events relating to our work
    • attending hill briefings, hearings and markups related to transparency and open government issues

    The lobbyist will report to the Policy Director and work side-by-side with Sunlight’s Government Affairs Consultant and Policy Counsel on a comprehensive lobbying strategy to deliver Sunlight’s message to government decision-makers.

    Qualifications

    The ideal candidate has at least two years of advocacy experience or policy-related Hill experience, and is committed to the idea of a more transparent and accountable government. He or she must be able to communicate effectively in writing and in person. The candidate must be detail-oriented, able to multitask, capable of working independently and have the ability to creatively solve problems. This is not an entry-level position.

    Additional factors we will consider include:
