I had a great conversation with a senior leader in government last week who gave me a set of interview questions she asks when hiring senior workers. I thought I’d ask him here and see what people think.

    This week:

What do you think is more important as a leader – political savvy or common sense?

I think that’s going to depend on what your respective definitions of “political savvy” and “common sense” are, Steve. They’re each pretty big constructs.

If one defines political savvy as being able to identify and reach decisions that are agreeable to all stakeholders, well that’s just common sense to me.
