As we honor the service of our nation’s military, I have an interesting question that I am asking for help along these lines. My friend’s grandfather was a WWII bombardier on B-17s in Europe, and his family has footage of his missions on film that needs to be preserved. I was thinking maybe the Smithosian, or even the History Channel. Not sure who to contact.

Was hoping for suggestions on whom to contact to help preserve his legacy, courage, and service to our nation.

Thank you, and thank our veterans!

    Hi, Jaime–

As the proud daughter of a WWII vet, I appreciate your question. Thanks for helping your friend with this project.

The Library of Congress has an oral history project to collect recordings from veterans. They provide a kit and instructions on how to create it and submit it to the library.

The National WWII Museum in New Orleans collects both oral histories and artifacts like film.

    Good luck with your efforts!
