Position has closed. Assumption is we will be expanding as the program evolves so I am hoping there will be more positions announced. It is a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs position. I posted it here, but hope you or others monitor USA Jobs as well and get their direct feeds for this and the kinds of positions you may be interested in. Good Hunting!

Hi Mr. Luoma….I recently applied for the audiovisual specialist position within your department. I’m really interested in the position. I would like to opportunity to send you a copy of my resume personally, as I have 5 plus years of television production/producing experience. Thank you

Robert thank you for the interest! I recommend you do what I hope and that is apply through the formal channels. The process is a bit daunting but is the only way I can legitimately consider you. USA Jobs has descriptions of this and there are a lot of legitimate insights/advise in building your application package. USA Jobs also has a subscribe feature so that you are actively sent position types you say you are interested in as they become available. To be frank, the system is set up so that there is open competition and favoritism or pre-selection is prevented. I hope you don’t view my response as a negative! I advocate you know the game and work it till you are successful. If you have Veterans status or are have certain disabilities the government attempts to give you certain consideration advantages.

Thank you for replying back. I did apply through USAJobs and was qualified. In fact I scored a 95 on the assestment test. The only problem is…I didnt make it to the next round. When I spoke to someone in the recruiting department they told me many applicants who made it to the next round are veterans and recieve extra points, which gives them an advantage(I’m all for helping veterans out) but that limits civilans like myself with a lot of experience the chance to make it to the next round. Someone in the recruitment department told me in some cases the veterans may have a score of 105-110..which allows them to make it to the next round. I would like to send you a copy of my resume and be considered for this position. The job announcement does also say that the hiring manager can request for more applicants, as I will fall into that group. Please consider me for this position, as I bring years of broadcast experience and a drive to excel in the area of media production.

Do you have a linked in account?

What the “recruitment department” told you is correct. The list of qualified Veterans is usually extensive these days, more then historically. I’ve no question you are qualified. There are Veterans who also have extensive experience in video as you know. A hiring manager must provide justification why each Veteran candidate that is rated above you is unqualified. This list can be extensive. The list of non-Veterans is also extensive and may have higher numerical rankings. I take a moment to not discourage you but to provide you with information. I encourage you to go to job fairs where the Federal Govt is present and talk to hiring managers and recruiters.

I do have a linked in account…its Robert Owens.

Thank you so much for taking time out of your schedule to discuss the job I was interested in and ways to get one with the Federal Government. I greatly appreciate it.
