GIS and Young Professionals: A Match Made for Government

Geographic information systems (GIS) technology is becoming increasingly significant in the policy formation process across the globe. This fact is even more relevant for young government workers that are eager to impress their supervisors with innovative thinking and the development of new analytical tools.

If you’re one of those ambitious young people looking for direction, you’re in luck! Esri’s Young Professional Network (YPN) is a community for those starting out in GIS as well as experienced professionals that want to expand their knowledge – and you’ll have every opportunity to check out what they can offer at the upcoming Esri Federal GIS Conference, Feb 13-14, 2017, in Washington, D.C.

YPN provides a group for those just starting their GIS careers as well as more experienced professionals who are beginning to use GIS. Members can learn more about the power of GIS technology, connect with peers and industry experts, and gain leadership experience to help them advance their careers.

At the upcoming Esri Federal GIS conference, which is complimentary for federal employees, you’ll have a chance to learn how a career in GIS can advance your government career. YPN allows members to get the latest information on advances in GIS technology and see how those advances can help enrich their careers. In addition, members have access to GIS innovators and emerging leaders through YPN events throughout the year. YPN also offers opportunities—such as exclusive events at Esri conferences—to make connections that encourage career growth, share accomplishments, and learn from industry experts and other young professionals.

Young professionals attending the Federal GIS Conference can take advantage of a variety of special events focused on learning, connecting, and leading, including discussions with experts about what it takes to launch a successful GIS career or develop an already budding career. There will also be information from GIS leaders about various career paths in the GIS field and how to build your professional network and develop mentorships.

Are there similar conferences on the West Coast? This is an incredibly critical type of convention and actually should be done all over the country, not just in Washington. Maybe is it possible to do it in different places each year?
