In this day and age, mobile devices have an overwhelming presence in business, government and everyday life. Applying these devices to improve business methods has moved from a luxury to a necessity in many industries. One emerging application is mobile capture.

According to IBM, mobile capture is “the ability to capture document images and upload them on the fly.” Many agencies find this to be a useful tool due to it’s convenience and simplicity. So the question is: Do you know how to apply mobile capture to your business and are you prepared to implement it?

IBM has addressed this question head on in their recent whitepaper, “Are you Ready for Mobile Capture?”. In it, they discuss the benefits of, usage, and questions regarding mobile capture which is reviewed in this post.

A first step in applying mobile capture to your organization is to review the common benefits that other agencies are gaining from mobile capture and to understand if these benefits may be applicable to your work. Many agencies that gravitate toward this tool commonly work with stacks of documents at a time. These agencies that find using mobile capture saves them both time and money.

Additionally, financial institutions have found using mobile capture with customer relations to be beneficial as it has made online banking possible, while many insurance companies are benefiting from the ability to take pictures of damages and upload many photos instantly. It is clear that mobile capture supports a wide range of applications.

These are just a few examples of how mobile capture can help improve procedures and customer experience within your agency. It is important to note that these examples are just the start of what mobile capture has to offer. With the capabilities of mobile devices and applications sky rocketing in the past few years, the use of mobile capture in the workplace will also continue to grow. Mobile capture has the ability to enhance anything from customer service to employee productivity, to overall processes within your agency.

With the potential benefits this tool has, it is important to create guidelines to follow before implementing it in your agency. Although it seems as easy as snapping and uploading pictures to your computer, it can become overwhelming when the process is not organized and established in a proficient manner.

To access IBM’s top ten questions to prepare your agency for mobile capture, read Are you Ready for Mobile Capture?
