A Group for "All levels of government in Canada."
Does anyone have any examples of the use of GCPedia for things other than promotion of itself?
Here is mine:
Is there any plans to ever grant access to GCpedia outside of the federal level? even for viewing. I work for local government.
No plans I know of yet to open it up.
The site was established as an internal proof of concept and is solely an internal federal wiki. It is a good tool for interdepartmental collaboration, with no limits on location.
"It is like a boardroom table that stretches from Victoria to St John's"
It has its weaknesses, many of which will be solved by a tool similar to Govloop. (Communication regarding updates, project progress ect.) I currently work around the weakness by pairing it with emails.
You could potentially raise the concept of an internal wiki for your department, or possibly look into private free wikis if your work is low sensitivity or a support function and you can obtain management support.
Check out this video as well:
If you are interested in a Govloop-like tool, check out GCConnex. You can find more info about it on GCPedia. Its a GoC internal tool as well, with features similar to facebook or govloop, such as forums, groups, events, and photo sharing all possible. Also in pilot mode right now, led by the same folks as GCPedia. It uses an open source app called ELGG.
I am already there. 🙂 It is exciting to see these tools get off the ground and open up the world of government to branch the silos.
