Our Furry Friend’s Pictures

Please introduce yourself and your cat or cats. Post more than one message if you’d like to and post pictures to introduce your furry friends to the group.
The attached pictures are of my husband, Dean’s and my Norwegien Forest Cats named Gubraunder Bogart Catkinwoods Johnson (male) and Guinevere Rane Catkinwoods Johnson (female). His first name means “God’s Sword” in Norwegien and her middle name means “Queen” in Norwegien. They are brother and sister and turned 2 years this past July; I don’t know what we’d do without them. They’ve brought us so much joy!!

I don’t know that I’ve ever personally met a Norwegian Forest Cat before. They’re lovely and both look like real sweeties. How big are they? Excellent names too.

Norwegien Forest cats originally came from Norway to the US in 1979 and their Norse name is “skogkatt”, meaning forest cat. Their nickname is “Wegie” (pronounced to rhyme with ‘squeegee’) by those who own them. It’s believed they were used on Viking ships as mousers and were brought to America, mixing with the domestic cats hundreds of years ago and that’s where Maine Coon cats descended from.
They are real people-type cats and will attach to one person, but are not lap cats. They don’t meow but have a funny trilling kind of meow. The adult males can get to be 15-25 lbs and the females tend to be smaller.
We got our’s because my husband’s part Norwegien and he fell in love with these cats and had to have one…then we decided that one kitten would be lonely so we bought two!

Hey, man, don’t Bogart the couch! 🙂 Our first cat was a Maine Coon (and a small one, at 11 1/2 lbs. – male), but he could take up a whole king-sized bed by himself. He and my husband were one creature in 2 bodies.
I’m going to try to upload a picture of our two, Cedric (foreground) and Saavik. They’re also brother and sister from same litter, and we got them from the DC WebWomen mailing list in 1999. We’ve had cats since 1985: Phoenix (the Maine Coon), Abigail, and Griffin.

I was browsing through, looking to see what people had posted, and noticed the date on this posting of mine. Less than a month later, our little girl, Saavik, had died of a kidney problem that was kind of starting but we didn’t think it would be anything when I made the posting. To keep Cedric (and my husband!) from getting lonely, we got a pair of kittens, Duncan and Amanda, in mid-November. I’ll try to put up a picture of them, if I can (for some reason, Facebook isn’t letting me upload pictures, so I hope I have better luck here!).

Caryn – So sorry to hear about losing Saavik. It’s so hard when you lose a pet…it’s really losing part of your family.
But Amanda and Duncan are so ADORABLE!! I love the pic of one yawning! They seem to get along well and I’m glad you and your husband have them. Kittens make a house so much FULLER, I think.

Now Saavik’s brother Cedric is having health problems! Not the same ones she had – hers were kidney-related, and he has a mass in his stomach. We have to take him to a (rather expensive) specialty vet tomorrow to see what’s going on – prayers and good thoughts are much appreciated!

I haven’t logged on here for a while so am just reading this now. I do hope Cedric was OK. I lost a very young (2.5 years old), very sweet boy last fall due to a mass in his stomach that turned out to be cancer, so I hope your situation turned out better. I hope the kittens are doing well too.
