Coolest Office Spaces in DC?

I was just reading “Three Telework Tips for DC Employees” and number 3 caught my attention:
3. Provide convenient DC virtual office space.
Although most job tasks can be conducted from home via telework technology, there are times when telework employees will require a professional office space for meetings, trainings and other business-related tasks. Employees can have on-demand access to fully-equipped office space in a convenient location.
It got me thinking…if you could work anywhere in Washington, DC – and I am talking about picking up your laptop and sitting in the Capital Rotunda (if they’d let you) or in the lap of Lincoln at the memorial that bears his name (I know, that sounds a little creepy), where would you want to work? Traditional office space or somewhere cool like a loft in Chinatown or a converted metro train? I don’t know, sky’s the limit (literally, like working from Air Force One).
Heck, maybe you’re not just dreaming and you’ve worked in one of these places.
I have. 🙂

I would love to be able to work from a cool loft somewhere, with a bunch of other ppl doing similar work. I’ve thought a lot about what a great space would be, and I am envisioning huge walls painted with chalkboard or dry erase paint, lots of different sizes and shapes of post-it notes, a bunch of large tables and some dedicated file/storage space, and computer monitors to use at will. If the sky really is the limit then there would be an awesome rooftop w/a pool and a garden for times when you want to take the work outside, or just unwind 🙂
There is a great coworking scene in NYC and to some extent in Boston, but I haven’t really stumbled across anything similar here, although Starbucks seems to be happily accommodating that market need.
Also, which space have you worked in, Andrew?? 🙂

I am presently (as we speak) sitting on my front porch wind blowing next to my two dogs “Lucky and Tanner”. Somewhere with an outside inside presence if the weather happens to take an abrupt change surrounded by a garden and a walking path nearby…….perhaps if needed a meeting table for six to eight persons..coming up from the floor or ground with a nearby water cooler. Not asking for much …..glass and mortar not exactly my take on the optimum dream in terms of office space. Besides a moderate quiet place and a cell phone will pass!

Completely, agree, Curt! It’s a little hot right now in Durham, but as soon as it cools off, you’ll find me on my back deck most days (when I’m not traveling to DC).

Okay, so I haven’t worked specifically in the lap of Lincoln (really hard to get by those guards), but I have pulled out my laptop and worked from the steps…pretty amazing view that just never seems to get old.

They have some co-working space here in Durham (I know, we’re talking about DC) – old converted tobacco factories/warehouses…but I can’t imagine DC doesn’t have something similar!

I would want to do the whole rooftop thing. This is nuts but it would be pretty baller to have your office at the top of the Washington Monument.

My husband used to work at Greenpeace, which is in a very cool industrial-style loft in the heart of Chinatown at 7th and H. I was always envious. When it’s a nice day, I think Dumbarton Oaks would be a good place to telework.
