Only about 20% of respondents to a January Public Service Research Panel (PSRPanel.org) survey think the job market this year will be “worse” in their field of public service, compared to nearly a third (32%) who answered this way when the same question was asked a year ago. The percentage seeing the job market as “about the same” increased more than 12 points, compared to last year, but those viewing the job market as “better” decreased slightly. So while high hopes have not exactly returned, pessimism about the job market for public service professionals appears in decline.
The survey is based on responses from 225 public service professionals from across the United States participating in PSRPanel.org, an online academic research panel organized by Rutgers University’s School of Public Affairs and Administration.
