Training Delivery Platforms
July 15, 2010 at 11:34 am #105723
From Lisa Nelson on the Comment WallI am looking for a temporary platform/means of delivering training. Does anyone have any suggestions or experiences they can share?
Some options we are considering include:
* Hosted through another agency or organizations’s publically-available and existing training platform on the web (publically-available is key)
* Hosted directly on the web, for example, USALearns. org

Sure, right now we are developing a Plain Language course and are operating under the assumption that money is no object (though of course it WILL be, but we don’t want to be constrained as we develop our ideal.) Ideas include: module-based, interactive, hands-on writing/editing with live/immediate (or within a few days) feedback. People would work through a module about “what is PL”, or “elements of PL”, or “writing for the web”, etc., then they would be given a document/paragraph/web page to edit. We would have either live or “remote” instructors to whom the edited docs would be sent, and who could give immediate feedback, to show people what they did right or wrong, and where they could improve.
So I think we are interested in exploring all the things you mention – we want instructor and student to be able to interact (in-person, or remotely), we want students to perhaps bring a sample of their own writing and be able to work w/the instructor to edit/improve it.

I think my former employer – the Graduate School (USDA) – may have something like this and could contract with them…let me know if you’d like a Point of Contact:
If you’re intent on developing in-house, the platforms that are possible:
– Blackboard (for chat and other functionality)
– Adobe Connect (for web-based presentations and screen sharing)
– WebEx (similar to Adobe Connect)
– Google Docs or a Wiki – for real-time document editing/sharing

Thanks Andrew. I was thinking about the grad school. If you have a contact that would be helpful, however, I am sure I can call them and find one!
