Erin Duggins replied to the topic If Project Management is Common Sense, Then Why Do 70% of Projects Fail? in the forum Program and Project Management 7 years, 7 months ago
Project management is common sense, but there is an assumption that the single variable as to why projects fail or succeed is due to project management. The reality is that one cannot “manage” human behavior and human response to the changes to the processes and symptoms that the new projects are attempting to change. Users and/or stakeholders are the ultimate X factor with any project because their feelings or responses to change is not about common sense. The only thing that can be done from a project management perspective is to acknowledge user/stakeholder response as a risk, and actively manage and mitigate it. That’s why organizational change management on any project is so important.
