Stock market reaction shows McDonald Douglass, Raytheon, GE all gaining – a sign of building military strength and contracts.
Ruger, American gun manufacture, stock dropped signaling a *possible* drop in gun sales.
No word on construction contracts.
Tip: Wishing the president’s failure is like wishing the pilot of the plane or…[Read more] -

Avi, Mark, Thank you for the panel and idea about creating a central data warehouse to help pry data from different departments. Privacy is not only a concern, its part of the fourth amendment. While it was not mentioned, once personal data is removed or aggregated, the data should be good to use. Instead of breaking down silos and upsetting…[Read more]

I’ve been told the first amendment is not there to protect words we all want to hear. The first amendment is to protect that which others want to squash or not hear.
I like anonymous posts by citizens and government employees. As a government employee I’m also a government representative. While at work, wearing an ID badge or identifiable as a…[Read more] -

Blood drives and social media are tricky. Public information officers (PIO) have to approve of sites and messages.
Approval process can slow down fast paced social media.
Solution – personal web pages and twitter accounts talking un-officaily about a blood drive in general terms. I have not tried it yet but it seems like a good idea.…[Read more] -
Allen Sheaprd replied to the topic You Take A Smoke Break. I Should Get a Walk Break. in the forum Forum Discussions 9 years, 10 months ago
Walking is healthy – good for the body. Smoke break is good for the career. Why? People stand around talking (mini meeting) when they smoke. It also brings people from different departments together.
Years (hmm, decades) ago we used to joke about buying cigaretts just to stand there, blend in, and be part of the mini-meeting. We do not smoke…[Read more] -

One great exhibit at the 2011 Joint Warfighter conference was TIDES ( http://www.star-tides.net/ ) working out of National Defense University – part of the DoD.

I’m not affected by it. Weather is super nice outside but remember how stressful it was.
Not worried about interruption in services. Hoping things can be worked out. If not the President can open up different departments.

Reorgs work well with consolidation – not just playing musical chairs.

Allen Sheaprd replied to the topic Should Undercover Boss take on a Governmental Agency? in the forum Budget / Performance 10 years, 1 month ago
Having the boss come and work my job would be great.
Its easier for him see my job than it is for me to explain it to him in a way that fills in any misconceptions.
I’ve learned its easier for me to learn their language than ask them to learn mine.
