This has always been a thorn in my side at work. I don’t smoke, but I like to take a few minutes away from my desk just like everyone else. I call it my mental break. BUT, just taking a few minutes away from the desk as a non-smoker is like a chore. Instead of saying “Hey, I going out for a smoke” and no one questioning it, I have to explain where I am going and why. To be fair, my current boss back home is not like this, he is fantastic… but with past supervisors it has been heck to get up and just go to the bathroom if you are a non-smoker.
Now, I have a friend at work who smokes and I tell her to remind me when she goes out for a smoke. When she goes out, I get up, and do a little cubicle Yoga until she gets back. That way, there is someone to answer her phone, and I get a little exercise in.
