Arthur G. Grant replied to the topic Recommended reading challenge in the forum Miscellaneous 9 years, 7 months ago

Perhaps an odd suggestion for someone headed to government work, but there is an old book, easy read, first in a trilogy that everyone should read. The book is the innovators dilemma. It will help you understand industry, investement, and even the government. It is written by Clayton M. Christensen.
I recommend following the Innovators Dilemma…[Read more]

I have replaced 99% of my Starbucks visits with my Kurig system. Found I like Donut House and Coffee People French Roast, and Itailian Roast. Since 9 out 10 times my local Starbucks only have that disgusting Pikes, this is a more than acceptable and cost effective solution. I do still buy Starbucks Via for travel use.

Roland Touche, my friend. I didn’t notice that the a strictly proprietary solution was being applied for this event. But yes I believe what I said about knowledge base. People who believe find ways, and like most I have personal systems I can use when my business systems let me down. I have to offer full disclousure, I am not a government…[Read more]

Roland, you would participate if for no other reason, to broaden your knowledge base. Eventually even California will find a reason to go open source, current economic pressures may help push in that direction, or simply waiting until another state has a system that works at a fraction of the cost. By attending seminars such as the one advertised…[Read more]

My favorite cup of coffee is Sumatra, specifically Diedrich but they only have one store left. Once Starbucks decided thier competition was McDonalds and countered with Pike’s as the only brewed coffee all day, they lost my 6-10 visits per day. However their Via instant French Roast is very good and handy when traveling. Small independents have…[Read more]

Arthur G. Grant replied to the topic What Are You Doing on DC Snow Day? in the forum Miscellaneous 10 years, 11 months ago

I think the question should be modified to what did you learn about accomplishing your functional mission during these snow days. Was your organization sufficiently effective. What changes should you, will you make to your work at home envrionment to be more comfortable and effective?

Seems collective lessons learned are in order.

My understanding is that intermitent power outages and phone line issues are impacting telework. What is your experience with these disruptions.

Sounds a little harsh. Seems most the feds on this network are putting in time to keep things moving. Appreicate if you job hunting but they didn’t create the snow.
