One of the creations of a cultural leader is the creation of coordination or synchronization within an organization. In other words, in effective organizations the left hand knows what the right hand is doing. This is also what we call Unison. But, that is a conversation for another time.

This article in Scientific American is great because it talks about a deep need for humans to coordinate our actions with one another. This need for synchronization and coordination is so much a part of us that it has a powerful effect on how we interact with the world.

A key feature of leadership is not the focus on execution but instead an alternative emphasis on coordination which leads to synchronization. See, if people are working in coordination with each other and major organizational systems are synchronized with each other than organizational effectiveness will increase. Why? Because inefficiency will be sqeezed out of the system due to everyone operating off of the same sheet of music.
