Meghan – did you visit the Federal Children’s Center in Herndon? What did you think?
Both of my children either went or are still going to the FCC – primarily because they offer full day Kindergarten, and my husband and I both work in VA. My daughter went to the FCC just for Kindergarten and we were a little worried about the waiting list but had no problems getting in – I think about 50% of the kids leave to go to public Kindergarten. However, if you have an infant, by all means, the DAY you find out you are expecting, get on the waiting list. The ‘class’ size is much smaller with a very small infant/caregiver ratio.
Tuition, I believe is comparable to other federal facilities. The facility is in an office park and is standard to any regular daycare, but I think the teachers/caregivers are wonderful. I don’t care about the playground or new Legos as long as the teachers are warm, educated, and loving. I recently saw the FCC’s annual report – of interest because the FCC lost its sponsoring partner – and over 90% of the incoming funds are used on teacher salaries.
