I have to say my proud moment in government was as part of a team that developed a way to reimburse State and local governments for their fire department’s deployments to the Pentagon and World Trade Center sites immediately after the September 11 terror attacks. The only other major deployement of local search and rescue teams like that was when FEMA sent teams to assist in the Murrah Building bombing. It took almost 10 years to fully reimburse those teams. I was part of an 18 person team charged with reviewing all the costs associated with deployment. Not only did we develop a standardized method for these FEMA partners to submit bills, but we successfully reimbursed over $20 Million in a little over a year.
The standard we developed has been refined since 9/11 but is still in use today.
That is my proudest moment.
