I think the measurement/metrics depend on your expected outcomes:
-If you host the event, you can measure success by participation numbers, and simple event surveys (though I personally never fill them out).
-If you attend an event, it depends on whether or not you got what you wanted (expected outcome) — networking, information to enrich your future work products, sharing your information with others, etc.
-If you speak at an event, you look at how your message was received and by how many. Was the venue appropriate. Did folks talk to you afterward or blog about what you said?
But the real question of measurement that we struggle with at NASA — have you changed opinions in a positive way and how do you measure it.
We’ve been working on an exhibit experience called SpaceSmart to measure movement in opinions about NASA and space as the visitor engages in the experience. We’ll debut in the next few months. Stay tuned for results.
