Bob Gourley replied to the topic What Annual Activities does a CTO do? in the forum CTO Forum – Chief Technology Officers 9 years, 4 months ago
I like seeing CTOs build a technology forecast and then use that to deduce conclusions relevant for planning. It is also good when CTOs gather together for exchange of ideas. The great DISA CTO Dawn Meyerriecks was so good at that she ended up hosting a conference for all federal CTOs. It really helped the entire community out.

Bob Gourley replied to the topic Who Should be the Next U.S Deputy CTO? in the forum Forum Discussions 10 years ago
This is a great list plus great mentions by others in replies. These are all great, action-oriented folks deserving the honor of consideration of this position, I think.
But I hope the deputy CTO will be picked in a different way. I hope the deputy will be picked to be a GREAT match for the current CTO so they form an incredible team. What I…[Read more]

Bob Gourley replied to the topic Who Else thinks the Harry Reid Comment is a Non-Story in the forum Miscellaneous 11 years ago
Who here thinks Reid’s racial slurs should be off limits in political discussions? Guess what: nothing is off limits in political discussion. I guess that is a hypothetical question. Interesting comment and request. I also liked Steve’s reply. He is a good collegial leader which may be why this site went huge. Good seeing others dialog on this too.
As for me, I chuckled a bit when I saw it and at first I joked to myself “I wonder why its ok for govies with bad intentions to be here but not contractors with bad…[Read more]

@z1eyfk4ftpe5Joe,
I’m so sorry I did not reply to your post of March 2009. That is unlike me. I don’t know how I missed it.
I do have ideas on making data mashupable. The best enterprise-grade capability I know of is Presto, by JackBe. Also, to the degree you can have your data structure comply with the DoD core data requirements. Those give…[Read more]

Bob Gourley replied to the topic Government 2.0 Panel Discussion help! in the forum Forum Discussions 11 years, 8 months ago
Sometimes I think the strategy for senior executives regarding gov2.0 should be “Don’t just do something, stand there.” Too frequently when seniors try to help they are not informed by real-world use cases and don’t have a good grasp of technology. So even those with good intentions end up proposing solutions that are not that helpful or are in…[Read more]
