There are a lot of good ideas here. I would add consider appropriate foundation garments if your apparel could be perceived as leaving less to the imagination. (Clingy and /or sheer is not desireable). Although I do not think one has to have dark suits, it is a pragmatic investment for your purpose. Classic lines provide more wear and can be more versatile than the newest fad attire. Neat, clean lines, and a tailored look are optimum for that first impression that does not distract from your personal presentation about your interest in the new position. I have noted that unconventional piercings do not generally elicit warm and fuzzies for that first interview.
This is presuming the position you seek is not in the arts/design field.
