I also was given no kudos for seeking public service from my peers as an undergraduate. Many of which started at salaries twice mine. I remember the sacrifice as a Federal employee when I was riffed for the good of the budget. Moreover, Federal human resources limited reemployment rights to an area I was not geographically located at the time, that rebound was not easy.
That vainglorious private sector did not respect my contribution to lower taxpayer fundings as a program evaluator. Working with a team, it was in the hundreds of millions. I worked at the forefront of secondary mortage market issues as well. So I already know some of the mysteries of the derivative quagmire that private sector accounting firms kept silent on.( These firms wld charged the oversight Feds just to talk to them about their oversight as contractor ) I am dedicated to my profession and I served professionally albeit not militarily under hazardous circumstances. Drawing financial blood from the failure of Managers and politicians to poorly oversee rabid revenue excesses is nothing I seek to embrace this go around.
When I am allowed to to my job, I am working for the taxpayer trying to contain, control, or identify problems that have impact on the body public. If those in my profession were allowed to do our job to the fullest extent, we would not be here in the first place- in terms of this economic morass. Nonetheless, the cobwebs of subpar oversight have not been eliminated. I am eager to serve with those who tackle the challenges with greater apetite than we have experienced.
